At the SAHS July meeting, teacher, researcher, and gardener extraordinaire Patricia Meyers took us on a trip back in time to Jefferson’s legendary gardens at Monticello, which are beautifully preserved to this day. The grounds at Monticello include more than twenty flower gardens, two orchards, the vineyards, and nurseries. The vegetable garden alone covers two acres. Patricia gave us some insight into Jefferson’s cultivation of herbs, and also told some wonderful (and sometimes surprising) stories about Jefferson himself.
