SHARI ANDERSON

What we nowadays think of as “normal” western medicine is relatively new — just the last couple hundred years or so. Homeopathic, wholistic, ayurvedic and many other methods of healing are plant-based and so much gentler on the human system; they merit consideration when dealing with life’s little stresses.

The SA Herb Society is proud to once again host Shari Anderson. Shari walks her talk — she promotes the use of all things herbal in regards to helping keep stress at bay. Herbs have been the mainstay of human health for untold millennia and we in this century certainly have the means tolearn about, adapt and use these wonderful plants in daily life. In the process, who knows? We could help teach the world about a simpler, more aware way of healthy living.

The meeting will be held at the San Antonio Garden Center, 3310 N. New Braunfels from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Thursday, October 13th
Vietnamese Cuisine Demonstration with Lien Wilcox and Diane Lewis

Lien Wilcox and Diane Lewis will demonstrate how easy it is to prepare delicious Vietnamese cuisine packed with fresh and healthy herbs. The menu will include Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi, described as a Vietnamese sandwich flavored with tasty herbs and pickled and fresh vegetables. In addition they will prepare Vietnamese Coleslaw in a Shrimp Chip and a dessert made with black eyed peas.

Lien, who was born in Vietnam, has taught Vietnamese cooking to groups in her home and to cooking and gardening groups in other venues, including the Cooking Club at Cordillera Ranch.

Diane Lewis joined SAHS in 1998. She teaches herbal cooking and gardening classes in San Antonio and has incorporated dishes from Lien in her Asian cooking classes. This should be a tasty treat for the members and guests of the San Antonio Herb Society!

The meeting will be held at the San Antonio Garden Center, 3310 N. New Braunfels at Parland from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
